Dr. Rima Berns-McGown is the member of Provincial Parliament for Beaches-East York. She is the Official Opposition Critic for Poverty and Homelessness and a member of the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly.
Before she was elected, Rima taught Diaspora Studies at the University of Toronto. She holds a PhD in International Politics from the University of Aberystwyth, an MA from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International studies of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Journalism and Political Science from Carleton University. She has a long history of writing about and advocating for systemic change that creates equity and societies that truly work for everyone who lives in them.
Rima was born in South Africa of a mixed background and is proud to be a member of Ontario’s first Black Caucus.
